Creatives & HSP
I grew up in a community of artists and spent my childhood and early career in the arts myself. In fact, when I first went to graduate school, I determined my focus would be on the unpredictability of having success at one moment, only to so often be followed by not knowing what's next. It is a life unlike most, often with very little stability, and consequently the onus of remaining grounded lies on the internal life of the person. I work collaboratively to develop the tools to maintain the inner esteem necessary to weather the challenges and joys of this lifestyle.
Highly Sensitive People (HSP) are deep feelers who can have the experience of being more affected by the world than others. It is an incredible gift, although it often comes with the high price of feeling easily overwhelmed and/or shamed. I love working with people to appreciate these gifts while also learning to get by in a world that may not be friendly to these sensitivities.
Psychotherapy is inherently creative. It involves a respect for the unknown and a faith in the process as it unfolds. Through collaboration and exploration, playfulness and humor, and most of all the sanctity of the therapeutic relationship, my work as a psychotherapist is as creatively fulfilling as any I have experienced.
